Building a Lego Boe-Bot

To build a Lego Boe-Bot you will need the following items.

  • The Parallax Boe-Bot
  • A few lego sets (must include pieces from either the Technic or Mindstorm themes)
  • And a PS2 controller (if you want to control the Boe-Bot remotely remotely)

The Servo-Lego Interface

The hardest part of the building of this Boe-Bot is the creation of a Servo-Lego interface that transmits the rotational motion of the Parallax servo into rotational motion of lego parts.

Lego Gear

Find more information about the Technic Gear 12 Tooth Bevel . The reason we use this particular gear is because it is beveled - cut in half longwise - which allows the screw to pass through the gear and also grip the Parallax servo firmly. A non-beveled gear would be too wide and the screw wound not be long enough to pass through the gear and attach to the servo securely.

With these two parts in hand we are now able to create the interface very simply.

Attaching Lego hardware onto the Boe-Bot

The following consists of steps I used to create the Lego hardware. These are my specific steps - there are many possible ways of connecting Lego parts to the Parallax Boe-Bot. My idea for the lego gripper was inspired by Mark Crosbie's Lego grabber and a quick search on google.
