ME 171 - Computer Modeling and Design of Dynamic Systems

Course Information

Information About Teacher

Professor Granda is, overall, a teacher with a unique teaching style.
Granda is involved in NASA and has access to information on various exciting projects and missions.
Granda is usually willing to take time to help individual students.
Granda assigns homework from the text at the beginning of the semester. Those who can do the homework get good grades.
Granda has lab assignments which involve the subjects we are learning. Those who put enough time into the lab assignments should be able to understand them.
Granda's tests are similar to those in the book and in-class discussions. All those who do the homework should complete the tests.
The System Dynamics text is required and is referred to in class. Virtually all homework is assigned from this text.

Circuit Modeling Lab

The following contains work done to model an electrical circuit and to determine the systems behavior

The system to model:
  • Schematic - The electrical system shown in schematic form
  • Bond Graph - The electrical system shown in bong graph form
  • Bond Graph - The current, voltage, momentum, and charge through the 0.8 F capacitor

Quiz 1

The following contains work done for quiz 1

  • Adobe Acrobat icon The Problem - The quiz the teacher handed out (PDF format)
  • Adobe Acrobat icon Bond Graph - The system entered into MATLAB (PDF format)

Personal Projects

The following is a mass spring project to give students an idea of what controls and modeling are really about.

Final Project

The Propeller Controlled MiniMover 5.

Description: Picture of MiniMover 5. Action: Select (click) picture to view it enlarged.

The MiniMover 5 Project contains detailed information about the hardware, software, and mathematical representations of the MiniMover 5
